Dr David Schley

Dr David is passionate about evidence-based policy and decision making, and has engaged with Sense about Science as a researcher, scientist, and communicator for many years, leading on campaigns and communications since 2022. Having previously worked on the development of evidence base for policy decisions, he now seeks to ensure science and evidence are used appropriately in public life and that people are empowered with knowledge.

David lectured at the University of Southampton, the University of Surrey, and the University of Jaffna (Sri Lanka). He has also been a school teacher and provider of vocational training for journalists. His research portfolio includes modelling and epidemiology at Southampton Hospital and the Pirbright Institute. He has delivered high impact advocacy campaigns such as Challenging Heights, a prominent child-rights NGO in Ghana, as well as he has led research and science communications for the MS Society and the Marine Stewardship Council.

David has a PhD in Mathematics and is a Fellow of the IMA, a Chartered Scientists, a Chartered Mathematician, and a CIPR accredited PR Practitioner.
